Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before any material was released. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention due to its jolly title. I kissed a Girl - an ode of curiosity about sexuality - made available a few months later. It had a hard electro-pop sound and a strong stance. A few critics accused it of promoting homosexual relationships however others suggested that the song's raunchy lyrics were designed to attract men with fantasies. The combination of sensuality, polished music and a catchy tune helped the song become a top 10 hit across a range of nations. The result was the album One of the Boys (2007) being a big success. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy 2nd single Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of which Perry wrote herself eventually registered sales of more than three million copies within the United States.
